Delta of the Year 2005

Cheryl Williams

 

 

In Delta Sigma Theta, where service is a primary raison d’etre, the Charleston Alumnae Chapter is especially pleased to choose Soror Cheryl Williams as our Delta of the Year. Cheryl is exemplary of our commitment to service, and of all of the other virtues that Delta holds. The announcement and presentation were made at the May Week 2005 Program, where Cheryl accepted the honor with humility.

 

Cheryl has served admirably within and outside of Delta Sigma Theta. As a member of Francis Brown AME Church, she serves as Missionary President, Church Steward, Church School Teacher, Assistant Christian Education Director, and Choir Member. As a dedicated educator of 34 years, her accomplishments and awards are numerous and varied. She has been recognized at Teacher of the Year, as well as Conference Basketball Coach of the Year. Currently, as director of the 21st Century Extended Day Program at Rivers Middle School, Soror Williams provides innovational activities to the students encouraging appropriate behavior, positive self-image, social/physical and educational life skills, as well as homework and academic assistance.

 

In Charleston Alumnae, we are fortunate to have members such as Soror Williams in leadership roles. Some highlights of her recent activities in Delta Sigma Theta include:

  • May Week Committee as a member; and former Chairperson

  • Membership Committee member. Also co-chair of Sisterhood Drop-In Program

  • 65th Anniversary Committee member

  • Delta Tones member

  • Founders' Day member; Also originator skit entitled, “Then and Now: Legacy of Founders”, and the designer of the “Red Hat” worn by sorors at the luncheon.

  • Past Corresponding Secretary

  • Provides transportation or any assistance to Delta Dears to meetings, programs, etc.

 

Soror Cheryl Williams is highly deserving of this recognition, and the members of Charleston Alumnae Chapter appreciate her service and dedication.
